WHAT HAPPENS WHILE WALKING

Video Astrid De Haes

In What Happens While Walking, Astrid De Haes, together with Anna Jacobs and Senne Vanderschelden, investigated the interaction between two bodies in dialogue with each other and space. A story is generated by a minimal intervention in space, walking and meeting or passing each other.

The spectator's imagination is addressed by the repetition of patterns walked. One comes into contact with a game whose rules seem to be known only to the players. A trigger to stay alert, trying to understand the rules of the game.

This is hardly possible due to the subtle changes. The tempo of the players in combination with the fixed patterns creates an audible rhythm that makes the passage of time tangible.

Even the smallest intervention in space, together with repetition, provides just enough clues that give the viewer the feeling of wanting to fathom the performance.

Even the tiniest motion turns into a captivating blend of music and storytelling.
